Here for a week just reacting to stuff so it's time for an intro post.

Retired and fine with it. Studied and taught psychology at several German universities. Never lost interest in my fellow human beings. I‘m into books, movies, silly stuff, food. I enjoy viewpoints that differ from my own.

In Germany drones are not allowed over private property (unless the owner gave permission), in natures reserves and closer than 1500 m to an airport.

The Bavarian prime minister was furious! He even stopped tweeting about his latest meal. He loves the Munich airport.
Typical for their ultra-conservative party affiliation, the Bavarian politicians had associated 'security' only with immigration, turning a blind eye to Putin.

The UKs efforts to ban this practice are opposed by religious groups claiming a ban of conversion therapy would interfere with their religious feedom.

Religion is very much involved in this, unfortunately.

Of course it doesn't work. It was thought up by people who thought that being gay was a sickness or an aberration.

I am sorry for you having had these horrible experiences of utter betrayal and stupidity by people who should have cared for your well-being instead.

Well I am all for paying hospitals decent amounts of money to treat pregnant women - but I guess that is not what he was aiming for, here.

However, it also comes with severe drawbacks, not the least of them is that if differentiates between an ingroup of believers and an outgroup of heathens, thus paving the way for all kinds of oppression and cruelty. It was/is a tool in colonization.
It also very often normalizes misogyny.

Religion has many more purposes than just enrichment of the respective churches. And it is not only for the weak. It is part of the identity of many people and for some (not that many) it actually it is a help to be a good and empathic member of society.

Part of the appeal of some religions is that its sets you apart from your fellow brethren who have not been 'enlightened'. You are some sort of elite and can feel good and justified looking down on them. That does wonders for a shaky self-esteem.

Shame that this is still done in the US. Approximately 16 countries have introduced a full or partial ban of this practice, including Brazil, Canada and Germany. The UK is planning to do it. The American Psychiatric Association also opposes this.

One time when my mother was in hospital, she had to share the room with a rather pious woman who wanted to proselytize her.
My mother countered by describing in vivid detail every sexual encounter in her life. It worked to shut the self-annointed missionary up.
