Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Finding it hard to explain bias in AI programming, the need for equity, diversity and accessibility, the need to recognise differences, the need to ensure that the "perfect" human image is based on actual reality, then the first 10 minutes of this might help. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

as ever a really useful report - with so many of the issues we all know about . . .
sheilmcn.bsky.social
exactly - there are still too many assumptions around digital access
sheilmcn.bsky.social
yes it’s still an issue - was highlighted during lock down but it’s not gone away

This year's Jisc HE Digital insight report is now available. What strikes me is that 60% of respondents are still having connectivity issues and 37% don't have a suitable device for learning.

We need to know what humans do before we argue that machines can do it just the same. There can’t be AI literacy without a literacy in being human: how we make meaning in work and life, distinguishing the artificial from the imaginary from the true. mail.cyberneticforests.com/human-litera...

Everyone is arguing about whether AI is overhyped and overvalued or not, so I've decided to be a bit retro – what if the whole concept of "big data" was overhyped, and never really panned out?

Sounds mad, but hear me out… www.jamesrball.com/p/what-if-bi...
What if "big data" just…isn't worth very much?
I'm not saying the emperor has no clothes. I am saying his clothes are cheap, tacky, don't work and are seriously overrated.
