The Chatbots are contextualizing too much. ChatGPT gave the same nonsensical answer, but did provide the explanation that it understood the question as “what is the upcoming year?” based on a January date - using a probablistic as opposed to deterministic approach.

If AI can help children learn, and support teachers under a controlled environment, why not? These social media platforms, e.g., what we are currently using to debate, are ripe for abuse and disinformation, especially when they first rolled out. But we still find a way to safely use them.

Small, specialized language models can be used by teachers to provide customized learning plans for individual students. Again, small, customized language models via a chatbot (managed by a teacher) can act as a student aid for each child. The use cases are endless.

AI is meant to enhance a child’s learning experience, not replace teachers; that would be a stupid thing to do.
