Apparently it’s International Cat Day (when is it not?) and what do you know, we got a visit from Tommy, Lerwick’s celebrity moggie. We’ve told him he’s not allowed in but hey, he’s a cat…

P.S. lots of other libraries DO offer visitor memberships, so be sure to ask when you are on your holidays.
shetlandlibrary.bsky.social
Thank you! Have you been yet?

We got a lovely email from one of our USA visitors. 🙂
A good time to remind everyone we offer temporary memberships if you are only in Shetland for a short time - and that we have lovely staff!.
Speech bubble saying "On a month long stay in Lerwick, I read the library had a visitor’s membership! I went round to see if this was too good to be true.
The incredibly welcoming and helpful staff issued me a card on the spot. They helped me install the eBook app and I also borrowed books about the Shetland Islands’ history, traditions and traditional handcrafts. I’m a world traveller. I have never found another library willing to allow me to borrow their books.
Thank you for extending your services to travellers. Thank you for all being so wonderfully kind and helpful."

Scorchio! It's been at least 19C all weekend up here, believe us that's hot for us!
Remember the Library has lots of maps and guides to borrow if you are out and about. More important, don't forget the sun cream!

The Salt Path is one of our most popular books. There's a social media rush to condemn Raynor Winn on the back of one Observer article, which is the way these things roll. Her own statement is worth a read to get beyond the soundbites. The story will always be interesting.
