hiiii, im Shima 🌸
People who love me call me Shimi

I'm a trans queer anarchist otherkin with a pyramid of disability, an artist (primarily focused on pixels) and a gamedev.
This account is mainly for said art and development updates, but im also anti-professional so don't expect cleanliness <3
Animated scribbles of Shima (in kangaroo form) looking towards a trio of blue butterflies. There are handles for my Bluesky and Discord accounts.

-think about how you're gonna engage with the challenge before you've properly begun it if it was a Large amount of terrain, you'd be actively encouraged, and if it was None then you'd be forced to engage with it just as a platforming/puzzle challenge, it's perfectly balanced to keep you aware

something i really appreciate re: that design intent of "do it your way" is how every subarea will start with just a little bit of dirt/stone near the entrance it partially serves as environmental context, just the neat idea that terrain has blown in through this door, but it also pushes you to-

all of this while taking decisive inspiration from Rare's 64-era stuff and making it all fit.. i am Satisfied as hell and as far as i know i'm still in the earlier third of the game
shimanoctua.bsky.social
nothing is sacrificed either, you still get constant engaging little challenges and intuitive mechanics and a proper sense of progression the fact that Any challenge involves some form of manipulatable terrain means i'm Always happy to find more
shimanoctua.bsky.social
its amazing to me because most other developers would likely approach the concept of "terrain is your canvas" as "they can do literally anything, lets push them consistently in the desired path", but this game really does design around it with full respect to the varying intentions of its playebase

i'm Adoring dk bananza so far the stage design is such a standout and it really makes you reflect odyssey was very fun to me, but on replay it sorta lost some value as areas blended together in purpose - bananza really feels like the full realization of the same environmental premise

from where we are currently i'm led to believe it represents something specific that applies uniquely to each lightner something about the drive for knowledge and a willed unreality
but i look at the fanworks and i think everyone just wants a new spamton??

people are doing to friend what people were doing to "mike" back before ch3/4 i Like the idea of a fuckass mischief kitty cat but this thing isn't implied to be an Individual or even have a Name

i cant stop thinking about why GLACEIR is deliberately, consistently misspelled in deltarune usually with that kinda thing its easy to track, it'll be some weird anagram or have an ironic meaning behind the deconstruction of the word but i can't make anything of this

she has a beautiful origin story now.. it's a commentary on the individualist nature of the hero work mario/luigi get up to and how they maintain human connection during it all..

The sorta urr-idea behind this all that things have to try and be for everyone, and everyone must be served, no matter how much the core art suffers is just like idk an extremely capitalistic idea???

I think well considered difficulty options are good and accessibility options are OBVIOUSLY extremely good and I think it's important to encourage people making stuff to think about who their art excludes, and which excluded groups are painfully underserved but you can't think in absolutes.

Like what other medium do you expect everyone else to have a uniform experience in? Art is about bringing yourself to it too, so every response is going to vary, and some like.. idk, even movies that some people find difficult to watch are easy for others just because of media fluency in some area.

People will yell about accessibility, but accessibility is a braille translation, not a book rewritten as if it was a simple english wikipedia entry. Sometimes the friction is needed to appreciate the art, and sometimes you have to build your fluency up to appreciate something. That's just culture!!

Difficulty has been too farmed as some weird pride/exclusion thing rather than looking at it as a tool that drives engagement with the systems of a game. Games can be too hard for no reason in the way that sometimes prose in a book can be unnecessary obtuse, but difficult prose can be NECESSARY.
