aragorn is Royal and expected to become king but fears becoming like his forefather whose weakness let sauron rise again is not Everyman din who would have become a worthy leader through respect and loyalty if his story allowed it.

been years since the words were uttered and i'm still mad.

also aragorn remains PEAK character. fucking incredible shit. 25 years and i still don't know if i want him or i want to be him. also 25 years is a good while to really understand his character arc and why so many other stories fail in imitating it.

this world is so different now, though. i know i won't see another star wars wiht the time and effort and support that Andor got. i do want to keep seeing sincere efforts in telling stories set in faraway worlds and realities. it's great. i love it and i miss it.

now I think of Andor and the other Star Wars I've been consuming (couldn't stick to Ahsoka, didn't watch the Acolyte or the Skeleton Crew or more than 1 ep of Mando Season 3 but i"ve seen the rest) and it's both practical/real sets vs. the Volume and also this sense of a reality with age.

also can't stop thinking about the whole "where does the lighting come from" "same place the msuic comes from" bit while watching Helm's Deep. we've lost effort and sincerity and the know-how to suspend disbelief. honestly makes me so damn sad.

trilogy also so far remains an absolute feat of cinema. it's not such a shiny new toy now but it feels so WHOLE. i did watch the appendices. I still have two "the making of" books. what everyone went through to make middle-earth so alive and so damn old is so impressive.

also it's interesting that i've only been watching the extended versions since they first came out (these re-releases are all extended versions) and i can still sense where and why they chose to cut what they did for the theatrical releases. this was such an exercise in translation.

also tonight's crowd had someone heckle denethor for being an absolute loser shit to faramir. and the applauses are great. and so is sam's speech.

there's still some good in this world, mister frodo, and it's worth fighting for. it sure is, sam.
