From my experience it’s never immediate and people can lose their jobs etc. I recommend covering your face because of tear gas anyway. I think we should provide solutions not scare people away.

I believe it’s still important, when the act of protest itself is almost being continuously criminalized. Sometimes for example people lose their jobs etc for just being there. Again civil disobedience warrants this may happen but it’s important to find ways to stay safe.

I think VPNs, emails from orgs like proton not affiliated with google and Microsoft, and bringing burner phones can help keep you safe and protected from government agencies prosecuting you for your 1st amendment right.

You’re almost expected to go to jail or have to deal with legal issues, it’s apart of the system. I think you’re right these can be a distraction and a fear tactic if they don’t provide proper means to help people organize privately online.

As someone who works in the tech sector (specially IT and cybersecurity) they make a good point technology has gotten good at catching people and is being used to further prosecute people under our increasingly dictatorial regime. That being said the point of a protest is civil disobedience.
