Looking at the failure the dowels appear to only insert 1/2 depth of leg For added strength, drill small hole through bottom of dowel hole{location guidance only}, Select smaller dia hardwood dowel and drill from outside the leg, through and into old dowels, at least depth of leg, set glue sand
