Social network culture feels sensitive to initial conditions. I rarely post now, but crypto tech stuff fits on Farcaster (ETH crowd), and X still has reach. I'm curious about Bluesky curation tools—but mostly check in to see what my favorite bsky influencer is up to (@goat.navy)

is it the culture or the close source client / protocol?

I agree with your criticisms. . . i'm not a fan of either tbh

limiting replies to people you follow or whom they follow seems like a simple approach.

maybe allow anyone else as long as they (or someone on their behalf) places a bond on reality vouching the post isn't bait / trolling

main usecase I think about is extending the evm with some cryptographic "precompiles" written in rust like other hash functions.

there can be gas savings for more standard smart contract functions (transfer, mint tokens), but diff is minor and there is some overhead.

My 12 year old German nephew exclaimed “Elon Musk is an asshole” during a discussion about EVs. Tesla's Berlin factory and Musk's anti-union stance get bad press but the German auto industry is declining, and union expectations were only sustainable in better times. Interesting what kids pickup.

I understand society considers certain topics "sacred" and others "profane"

sacred - life, religion, family
profane - money

so it's distasteful to talk about the reality that the economic costs of keeping grandpa alive from ages 80 to 81 comes at the opportunity cost of educating young people.

9/11 commission compensated families who lost loved ones in 9/11 based on economic analysis.

Looking at the relative wages of jobs with higher rates of mortality (mining, construction, etc), you can determine what people value their own lives at --- $2 million.

Germany got cold feet after Fukushima and shutdown their nuclear power plants deciding to depend on Russia for natural gas.

Now Germany turned back on its coal power plants after the nordstream pipeline was destroyed.

Now how do we quantify this downstream effect of a nuclear incident.?

I recently watched HBO’s Chernobyl series — really good, I recommend it.

USSR claims tens of casualties

Researchers estimate tens of thousands

But if you take into account the deceleration of nuclear power adoption looking at the trend line in 1980s (linear) and now, you have 2 million deaths
