If they make it to commercial product and profitability they could work on this later to improve margins. Like Apple didn't start with their own chip but now do it when they have leverage.

I vibe better with the Kodiak approach of focusing on the core thing. They're not going to amortize the costs over many units like Luminar or Hesai or Robosense, so it could be the thing that bankrupts them.

My point wasn't that robotaxis are a sure thing but that there are value stocks that offer this as optionality.

I 'kinda' agree and I like Aurora but they need a lot more cash and I really hate their in house lidar dev

As for GM, Cruise is literally the only thing going for them right now. It could be worth like the entire GM corp in an IPO. Can they really give up on that right now?

I kinda agree actually,but.
Yes, robotaxis are some time away, and need significant investment to become viable. But Hyundai see long term (they bought Boston dynamics) and also have everything going right in the EV space, so they shouldn't be as hysterical as Ford/VW.
