"There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope." - Mark Twain
If Elon Musk didn't turn into such a dipshit Starlink may have been a beacon of hope to break them away from depending on conservative AM radio.
December 12, 2025 at 12:57 PM
I've seen how farmers and many stereotypical conservative red necks worked.

By day, it's AM radio all day, every day, since that's their only source of entertainment amidst hard physical work. By night, it's Fox News because that's the only channel with a stable signal.
December 12, 2025 at 12:56 PM
It's the AM radios.

The conservatives control the AM radio. Which is a huge info source for farmers.

Can't watch TV while farming, and FM are relatively short ranged compared to AM.

He wants the convenience of being a dipshit like Putin while also being revered like Zelensky.

Maybe stop fighting which is "better" in the eyes of a bunch of out of touch circle jerkers.

Both have great art direction in different ways.

I'm Chinese, ethnically, and I don't see racism in those attacks.

I find any Chinese who complain about people using "Chinese" to complain about China to be the same as white people complaining when people criticize America or Europe.

By the government? No.

Hell, SpecOp the Line and Black Ops Cold War released.
December 12, 2025 at 12:30 PM
I am ethnic Chinese from Taiwan.

It was never about the quality of games, but the government that views those games as propaganda tools.

As fucked up as US get, games that's critical of US activity don't get banned (hell, they even get praised).

Not so for CCP of China.

*Monkey paw curls*

All the new transit projects "mysteriously" were found to be going through poorer neighborhoods with no stops there.

China also has an authoritarian regime that can eminent domain any land it needs with little push back.

It was also under an immense debt load that was heavily shouldered by local governments.

The US has AI bubble, and China has a rail bubble.
December 12, 2025 at 12:22 PM
Not saying it's good, just saying that that's the reason why they have a lot of pull.

They're the ultimate job program because it's the one place company are forced to not outsource.
December 12, 2025 at 5:38 AM
will tell you that just about any government contract can potentially be delayed, but defense related contracts are always paid in full on time.
December 12, 2025 at 2:17 AM
There's also a pretty mundane reason.

Military manufacturing is a big part of the US economy and it's very spread out. So it's very, very easy to lobby by just telling any congress member "your district has X mom and pop machine shops that rely on our contract."

And most of those shops

Wait, we seized an oil tanker?

Not need 24/7 solar.

Submerge it in ocean worked a hell a lot better.
December 10, 2025 at 9:43 PM
All the problem it will have is purely "heat".

Heat alone is a show stopper.

And if you can solve heat, you just improved it enough to not need solar.

In short.

Get nukes.

Forget about IAEA or any nuclear proliferation treaties.

Get nukes.
December 9, 2025 at 7:56 PM
They are working on that part too.

Probably not at the C-suite level because there's no one responsible for them above them.
December 9, 2025 at 7:44 PM
Also it's a gradient.

Modern AI is probably good enough for intern or junior level, but breaks down once you go beyond that.
December 9, 2025 at 7:27 PM
replace those tasks from "impossibly expensive" to just "a bit expensive".

That and it's new, and once the "just a bit expensive" part is working, everyone is trying to figure out how far you can push it.
December 9, 2025 at 7:26 PM
As for low cost, white collar work was safe before because the automation to replace them weren't cheap (in fact, they're computationally so expensive to be impossible). It's just that latest breakthrough of neural network development dropped the cost to
December 9, 2025 at 7:26 PM
Mechanical loom, threshing, planting for some crops, industrial manufacturing are all automated (or automated just enough to outsource to less skilled workers).
December 9, 2025 at 7:26 PM
I say "can be automated".

Fruit picking is a hard problem for automation. Having a robot quickly identify and grab a soft piece of fruit without damaging it is a hard problem.

Part of the advancement needed there is human level intelligence to quickly identify and plan robotic motion.

Legal reason.

If you have no legal liabilities, you are at risk.

Executives generally have a legal liability.

previous automation, so now we have a financial vacuum for datacenters to jump in to fill.
