The Nature of Gothic has just gone live on Northern Soul.

It looks at how cracks in stone — the ones Ruskin admired — still matter, not as decoration but as reminders of absence.
Culture isn’t imported; it grows in the gaps.

Yes, and the metrics of so
Many academic measures are around how many publications, not how purposeful/ insightful/ valuable the work is.
2/2 Many papers r wrongly cited like when a country that’s never mentioned in a cited work is described as its main focus, or when other basic mistakes slip through. If adjunct prof who juggle many jobs can notice these things, shouldn’t full-time prof have more resources to ensure careful work?

All my respect and solidarity to Nives Monda and the Trattoria Santa Chiara in Naples.
Defending human rights is not a crime — it is a moral and historical responsibility. Condemning the crimes committed in Gaza is not antisemitism. Support Nives Monda.

A world class poem free to you, a working class perspective, sure. The only one that matters
Hippopotamus
An incredible poem. World class in fact. It is about class too, about the class that writes poetry like this and the class it's all about. The ones in salmon pink trousers that guffaw.

Chapter 5 of the free novel written under a flyover, in the dirt. Where it is free, and working class life and being unconnected, is a perfect place for understanding what is missing, stopping chasing the absence open.substack.com/pub/petershu...
Chapter Five: A Rambler Resists
In the middle of writing a chapter the ramblers show up, they are comfortable with many things. Just not with other people were idyllic England should be.

Il Manifesto is the only Italian newspaper to lead with this news. Pediatric wards targeted, women forced to give birth in medieval conditions or shot by snipers on their way to the hospital. Gaza.

A poem inspired by the work of acclaimed artist and enforcing equine expert, Jamie Holman, his show is immense and currently on display at The Whitaker Museum & Art Gallery until June. Powerful, and with more marbles than you’ve ever seen before in one place.

It’s Not Me, It’s You
This is a review of Ian H William’s exhibition ‘It’s not You, It’s Me’ at Prism Gallery, Blackburn. It might not appear that way at first, but sometimes reflection requires a different kind of mirror
