This is really good, and also shows why abundance can't be the basis for a national campaign. It's great for areas that have embraced progressive policy goals, but lots of areas haven't embraced those goals. Winning that argument first is needed before applying your framework to the execution.

I think he genuinely disdains the right and they pick that up. He's never been a Pelosi "we need a strong Republican party" type. He acted like the issues of the right were barely worth acknowledging and that drove them crazy.

I'm pretty sure multiple Greek myths have someone doing exactly this and ending up being tortured in Tartarus for eternity.

There's one other thing that the NYT misses, which admittedly is hard to see but clear if you watch and was also attested to by a witness- before the first shot he *leans forward over the car hood*- seemingly to get as clear a shot as possible at her head.

I've seen a few terms for this bandied about, and while it's a bit too politics nerdy to really catch on my favorite is "lol-viathan".

People are extremely bad at processing large numbers and accurately applying them to reality. The fact is, there are and always have been lots of crimes occurring in a city of 7 million. Just a handful a day being reported and they think "OMG so much crime!" They can't put it in context.

The Decoder Ring podcast just did a good episode about this exact phenomenon. There have been waves of protein mania going back quite a long time.

The fundamental purpose of LLMs is to produce Bullshit, as defined by Harry Frankfurt. It's honestly eerie how perfectly the concept he defined in the 80's applies to the technology.

Unfortunately not just Americans, our dumbass premier in Ontario just banned cities from using speed cameras because he's as car-brained as they come.

Everyone who goes on about "law and order" and "personal responsibility" always means that for other people. In their minds there are intrinsically good people (IE them) who must have complete liberty and convenience, and intrinsically bad people ("criminals") who must be firmly controlled.

What's even worse about the hearing is, even accepting the issues as legit, Badiali is 1 in 1000. The issues are entirely from how popular they are because they're really good. They're basically saying, we cannot risk another Badiali opening, so no neighborhood retail for anyone else.

I have a theory, between these posts and the below comments, that he got some inside info that the Supreme Court case isn't looking good for him. Someone like Ginni Thomas is passing along the current mood and it's freaking him out.

Trump: "If this country is not allowed to have tariffs, if this country is not allowed to have the president negotiate on behalf of it w/tariffs, we are put in a position where we're gonna be a 3rd world country. We can't let that happen. I think it's the most important case that we are gonna have"

Not the main story but it's fascinating that literally every quote given to the reporter in this piece is an obvious lie. No one regrets anything, and no Republican is shocked or appalled by these chats, come on.

I've found the French are absolutely ruthless with Maps ratings of bakeries. If the croissant doesn't bring tears to your eyes it's 3 stars, at best.
