Played the Forbidden Solitaire Demo and I'm all in!

They nailed the mid 90s PC game aesthetic and sound, and it's a fun twist on Solitaire and Pyramid

It also has that fun Creepypasta haunted video game cheese sprinkled all over it.
Looking forward to the full game!

AGR Day 25 GOTY:

BLUE PRINCE

Unquestionably my GOTY. This game started slow for me ("why are there so little interactions?") but once I got a specific room, the whole thing blew wide open.

TL;DR: This is the new MYST. It has reached that level of greatness, uniqueness and puzzle cleverness

AGR Day 24:

HOLLOW KNIGHT: SILKSONG

After a long wait, it's finally here, it's Silksong!

And it more than makes up for the wait. This game is challenging, beautifully crafted, the controls are tight and the map is GIGANTIC.

Some design decisions boggle my mind though, I'll get into that

On the left is a large, long slender bug with a grey furry mane and antennas, holding an ornate silver pitchfork towards the sky, he hasn't seen Hornet yet, who's standing in the middle Hornet is standing on a platform in the middle of a dank disgusting swamp, the waters teeming with what looks like hundreds of maggots. The area is sickly green with hundreds of tiny mosquitos buzzing around a lantern. This is Bilewater, and it's the most ball busting area of the game.

AGR Day 23:

ARC RAIDERS

The game surprised the hell out of me, not because of its stellar sound design, or the ARC's amazing AI (although they're really impressive), but because its game design is balanced in a way that encourages friendly gameplay in a PvPvE environment.

That's tough!

Arc Raiders has no title screen, it just drops you off to the Play menu. The menu features your player character, in this case, it's mine, which is a middle-aged dude wearing a red floppy hat, some headphones around his neck, a black tshirt and red pants. He's geared with a backpack and walkie-talkie In the background is what looks like a cantina area, underground, although there's a little bit of snow falling. There are flags and banner strung up on the ceiling with loads of candles lit up A raider aiming down his sights at an enormous crab like robot in the vast distance. AGR Day 22:

THE WANDERING VILLAGE

This is a multi-level city builder where you have to manage your villagers and also the giant beast you're living on top of.
You have to constantly adapt and prepare as your giant home lumbers through different biomes, affecting your crops, water supply, etc

THE ALTERS

What makes you, you? This nail-biting survival game has the best philosophical theme I've seen in a game since Talos Principle.
You're stranded on an alien planet and the only way to survive is to clone yourself by choosing different paths in pivotal moments of your life

AGR Day 20:

ESCAPE SIMULATOR 2

As a giant puzzle nerd, I love escape rooms and the second installation of Escape Sim adds better graphics and a different variety of interactions with some really clever puzzles.

I used the hint system a bit and they can be hit or miss, but I had a great time

AGR Day 19:

DISPATCH

From ex-Telltale devs, this is a fun story about a superhero turned "guy on the computer", directing a bunch of supervillains seeking redemption. The characters are fun, fleshed out and well acted too!
There's an overreliance on "fuck = funny" but it's still solid writing

AGR Day 18:

BLOOD TYPERS

Great idea for a game! You move around and attack by typing words in a throwback PS1 style survival shooter

There's a wide variety of guns that change the way you type attacks, which I found very clever.
To keep it fresh, all the levels are procedurally generated too

ELDEN RING: NIGHTREIGN

It's more Elden Ring! Kinda!

I love the changes they made to movement in Nightreign; no fall damage, you sprint as fast as Torrent and you get to use those big ass vent trampolines all by yourself!

I also enjoy that you can use ANY weapon you get

There are ruined ornate, black chariots strewn around the area. Another enemy is holding a chest and looking at the undead that was shot. Two other undeads are on their hands and knees, digging at the ground. There's debris everywhere The player is running on a shallow river, about to cross a threshold made out of crumbling castle walls. It looks an earthquake ripped a castle in half and you can see torn walls far into the horizon. It's a big ass castle. The gateway before the final boss of the expedition. It's a stark white, old doorway that looks like it's made out of tree bark. The floor is ruined as well, with tree roots sprawling on its surface. Everything is white. The only non white thing is the absolutely beautiful celestial haze in the background. It's red, violet and blue and very bright. The haze looks like it has a central node that's brighter than the rest. It kinda looks like an oil slick. Under the node is what looks like a tree that's been split in two, or a gnarled jagged rock formation.

SKIN DEEP

If you like Immersive Sims, then this is the motherlode!
You're the "insurance" when some cats get their spaceships invaded by pirates and there are so many different ways to dispatch these guys, it's honestly impressive!

Blendo Games went silly with it and it works

There's an Airlock near the "driveway" and some barricaded windows near it as well. A cat being rescued from its wack ass prison. The cat is modeled like a regular cat, but made of cubes. It looks to be a gothic metalhead cat because it's wearing a metal band t-shirt and spiked bracelets. The cat also has black eyeshadow The caption at the bottom says Cat: "Meow, I'm trapped in here!" Cat: "MEOW!" In the game they actually say Meow in regular deadpan English

I'd prefer if they kept using stock imagery because it's always charming to figure out what a building's model is based off of in real life...
This is a long one: From Sven Vincke @LarAtLarian "Holy fuck guys we're not 'pushing hard' for or replacing concept artists with AI. We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more. The art they create is original and I'm very proud of what they do. I was asked explicitly about concept art and our use of GenAI. I answered that we use it to explore things. I didn't say we use it to develop concept art. The artists do that. And they are indeed world class artists. We use AI tools to explore references, just like we use google and art books. At the very early ideation stages we use it as a rough outline for composition which we replace with original concept art. There is no comparison. We talked about how we use ML here if you like to know more: <link is cut off> We've hired creatives for their talent, not their ability to do what a machine suggests, but they can experiment with those tools to make their lives easier"

AGR Day 15:

HELL IS US

This is a harrowing souls-like game that utilizes a knowledge system similar to Outer Wilds.

I was blown away by the environments, which contrasts with horrific acts of human cruelty as you explore an area in the middle of a civil war

I felt some Bloodborne vibes too

Rémi, the main character, is a man wearing a black poncho and wielding two axes made from a strange white alloy with curvy holes around the blade. He's standing in a swamp, near the edge of a river, looking at some enemies in the near distance. They're white figures without faces and some of them have bladed arms. AGR Day 14:

RHYTHM DOCTOR

A fun rhythm game that uses only 1 button, and it's amazing the amount of mechanics they can fit in there with that.
The music was boppin' and the characters were unique & charming!

It's kinda crazy what they pulled off for those boss fights (no spoilers).

WHEEL WORLD

Another short n sweet game, this time about bike riding!
The controls are smooth and the environment looks very pretty, not to mention the chill soundtrack playing as you ride around looking for challengers.

It was pretty easy, not gonna lie, but very cozy and relaxed

CONSUME ME

A semi-autobiographical game about dieting that really surprised me!

I really like the silly and cute art style, especially the faces. This game's got good faces.

The mini-games are fun too and it felt really rewarding how you could combo actions for more time.

IS THIS SEAT TAKEN?

A cute logic puzzler where you have to give people their perfect seats, and boy are these people picky.

Big fan of the art style, they've got those cute snipperclips type faces and everything else is bathed in warm colours.

It's a nice cozy game to sip tea to.

Around the screen is a pencil, a marker and some paperclips A screen from the game, showing the inside of a parked purple limo. The driver is a square wearing a red cap, he's taking a nap. Inside the limo is another square person, smiling, sitting in the back near the left window. On the other end of the seat is a triangle guy, smiling. Outside are 2 circle folks and 1 other square guy. One of the circles is selected and has an arrow on 'em. A card on the left side shows this person's info. They are Olivia, an adult, and they want to be with Goren, and also seated next to a window. On the right is a notepad with the button "Confirm" greyed out, and a thumbs up meter with 0/18 on it. Another level, this time at a movie theatre. There are a bunch of people on the isles surrounding the seats. Some of the seats have popcorn on them. On the left are three small shape-folks with rosy cheeks, indicating they are children. One of them is clearly dirty with flies around him. With them are 2 adults, one of them is holding a popcorn bucket. On the right are 4 adults and 1 child. One adult is a triangle wearing a green bowler hat, another is a diamond with a piercing and golden-laced boots. The adult next to the child is holding a popcorn bucket Another level, this time it's a bus with many seats available as well as spots for standing. There are 5 passengers awaiting seat assignations. 3 of them are children, one of them has a musical note near their head, indicating that they are being loud

NEWS TOWER

A tycoon game where you manage your own newspaper in 1930's NYC. Build your tower level by level and hunt down some scoops based on real life events of the time.

You get more viewers and cash by comboing topics and adding more pages to your paper.
It's pretty addicting

News Tower's title screen, appearing in a newsy gothic font. In the background, you can see the top of the Empire State Building, and a cloudy sky Your news tower, shown in 2D, floor by floor, it's next to another building called the Whitehall Hotel. On the top floor is a photography section, with a dark room and development equipment 5th floor is the news room, with telegraphers getting scoops and journalists writing their stories. The walls are adorned with posters and tchochkes 4th floor is the tile section, where the stories are added into tiles for the printing press. The lawyer's desk is there too, in a separate room 3rd floor is where utilities work, their desks is on the left, the bathroom is on the right 2nd floor is where the printing press is, there's 1 input at the left side of the floor, and output on the right side, and 3 printing machines between them. This area is strewn with audio panels to absorb noise, and vents+fans to dissipate heat 1st floor is where the generator is, for extra power, and storage. A guard post is setup near the entrance, as well as some pneumatic tubes for easier transfer of information An example of a scoop, featuring a city map with folders connected by a dotted line. Each folder has tags on them indicating a topic The story is shown on the top left, it reads: "George Washington Quarter Debuts: New 25-cent coin commemorates 200th anniversary of Washington's birth" The middle folder is currently being investigated by a journalist, she has a blurb that says "toss a coin to your reporter" The tags on the folder are "economy" and "ribbon cutting", as well as an arrow pointing left, indicating its an informational story. The following folder is greyed out as we wait for the reporter to finish their job. It has an economy sign on it, requiring a reporter with economy experience. The tags are "money" and a influence medal, which grants you currency to purchase new items on the world map Top left shows a timer for 5 days. The story becomes unavailable after that time. An example of the print system Every sunday you have to print your paper. You choose a story and determine where to put it on the page. Depending on where the story is located, it will change the influence of your paper. Stories with the same tags will net the player bonus points. The more points, the more readers and the more money. Stories on the left read: "TERRIBLE CAR CRASH During Rush Hour a Car Crash at Bridge Injured Nine People" "DUST STORM CHOKES TOWN Families Shelter in Schools" "NEW PLANET IS FOUND Next Step is to Measure the Size" On the right are stories you can choose to add to your paper, the ones in green are ready to print, the ones in grey are still ongoing. Two of them are displayed and they read: "VAULT STRIPPED IN BANK HEIST Big Vault Found Empty" "JEALOUS GRAVEDIGGER Husband Steals Freshly Buries Ex-Wife" The middle panel shows you the estimated sales, total profits, influence and a graph showing the various topics being printed. It also shows your influence window, which can give bonuses if you stick to a certain type every week. Right now, this paper is "moderate"
