Sudden Oak Death (SOD) is a tree disease caused by the invasive, fungus-like pathogen Phytophthora ramorum. SOD primarily affects specific species, and especially the coast live oak, canyon live oak, California black oak, Shreve’s oak, and a related species known as tanoak.

The Bay shoreline has hundreds of contaminated industrial sites, land fills, & old dumps, where containment strategies may not stand up to the threat of groundwater rise.🌊☣️
When groundwater flows under the surface caps of old dumps, it can move & spread the toxins in the soil.

In spite of levees, creeks, low lying lands, infrastructure, roads, parking lots, & building basements can flood. 💦 Water soaked electrical systems can fail. Water seeping into cracked sewer pipes can drown waste water systems & spill untreated water into the environment.

Groundwater & seawater seep into the ground & seabed respectively. 💦 Seawater's heavier than groundwater, so at the shoreline where they collide under land, the seawater stays under the groundwater. 🌊 The seawater moves under levees, pushing up groundwater as seawater rises.
