Don't know if this helps but I switched to Linux for my dev box (not gaming on it), and I'm loving it, especially with being able to get considerably more performance on less expensive hardware and it's been more reliable when doing software demos/previews for clients.

This is a similar concept to how I was able to create autonomous transactions in Laravel/Postgresql, where I created a new db connection for each "nested" level of db transaction. Each connection's transactions were isolated from each other.
