The Sikh Coalition encouraged sangat members connected to the trucking industry to submit their own public comments; we also submitted our own comment emphasizing the IFR's discriminatory nature and lack of any safety justification.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration sought the ruling, called an "abeyance," so they would have time to review roughly 8,000 public comment submitted in response to the IFR.

We remain committed to fighting for the rights of all Sikhs, including those who serve in the U.S. military, to maintain their articles of faith. No one should have to choose between their religion and their career.

The Sikh Coalition and our partners fought to ensure that LTC Singh could maintain his Sikh articles of faith in uniform back in 2015. In 2017, a U.S. Army policy change cleared the way for future Sikh soldiers to request similar accommodations. www.army.mil/article/2631...

Speaking during the ceremony, LTC Singh said that "[t]he Army and this Nation have given this village kid from Punjab far more than he deserves, and my hope is to be able to give even a tenth of it back." www.army.mil/article/289254
