"Done right, data centers can share in grid costs and actually help lower rates for everyone. Studies show that for every gigawatt of new large-load demand added to the grid, customer rates could fall by 1% to 2%"

🔮⚡My annual energy policy predictions column is up!

Predictions from five female leaders in the energy and climate space outline what to expect in 2025.

The 2025 column was eerily prescient - how will this one look in a year?

Comanche 3, Colorado’s newest coal plant has already been broken down *two full years* since it began burning crushed rocks in 2010. Now it will be offline another year.

Bill Gates gave $3.5 million to fund notorious climate denier Bjorn Lomborg, who says "climate change is not an existential threat."

Bill Gates just wrote that climate change is "not the existential threat some would have us believe."

The "Big Beautiful Bill" will spike consumer bills, cost America jobs, and threaten power supply shortfalls.

But smart states are moving quickly to accelerate deployment before tax credits go away.

Psyched to work with @oboylemm.bsky.social on this NYT column.

Support for clean energy is falling - even among Democrats - because:
-Right wing media/podcasters/social media repeat fossil fuel talking points
-Astroturf campaigns lie + scare local communities away from clean energy
-National Dems don't say clean energy cuts costs

IRA has "created jobs, built factories in hollowed out blue collar towns, and funded crumbling schools. It’s been an economic lifeline for communities being left behind in the 21st century. Republicans want to put an end to all that." @michael-thomas.bsky.social

Not really. The graphic shows new capacity additions. Only two new reactors have come online since 1996, Watts Bar and Vogtle. Much love to the 20% of existing generation that comes from nuclear, but no one's building it.

This widening band of solar (yellow) and storage (green) is the biggest takeaway to me - that combo keeps getting cheaper and it provides 24/7 power.

Cheap + reliable + insulated from volatile natural gas power spikes = winner

Has U.S. clean energy passed an unstoppable tipping point?

"It took more than 20 years for the U.S. to install the first 100 GW of clean power, five years to install the next 100 GW, and three years to install the most recent 100 GW.”
