I wrote about the genuinely galling Oakland City Council meeting I attended yesterday, where our the councilmembers almost unanimously voted to continue a dangerous countract with FLOCK surveillance.

Thank you to @sarahgailey.bsky.social who helped me parse my anger into something readable.
"He rolled his eyes, pulled faces, refused to make eye contact with those addressing him directly, had numerous side conversations, and simply walked away (at one point with food)." @maggietokudahall.bsky.social reports back from yesterday's Flock debacle: www.oaklandreviewofbooks.org/whipped-votes/

The @bayareacurrent.bsky.social launch is even better than expected. Check out this fantastic article on the "abandoned" Greyhound bus station in Oakland. bayareacurrent.com/why-venture-...

Oakland's historic Greyhound bus station exemplifies how venture capital works: the more our cities decay, the more they profit. The iconic station has been left to rot — like so many other spaces in Oakland — in the gamble for future profits.

It’s a BAD DAY for the Bay’s tech and real estate oligarchs, and a VERY GOOD DAY for those of us who pay rent, work shifts, jump the turnstile, argue with the CalFresh guy, and wait forever for the god damn bus. Why? Because

has arrived. 😈
