On this day in 1859, Albert Pullman was on the first Pullman excursion, which took Pullman carriages from Chicago to Summit, Illinois, to show them off to customers and businesses. Albert made became a national figure by leading excursions. @cornellupress.bsky.social @chicagomuseum.bsky.social

Happy 217th birthday to Albert Pullman’s mother, Emily Minton Pullman, born August 14, 1808, in Auburn, New York. She had six sons and two daughters who survived childhood, and served as the family’s matriarch until her death in 1892.
