I get these too (including one vaunting me as an expert in “cisgenderism”; sure). The gall to invite us to serve, gratis, as expert annotators for RLHF as if it’s a privilege is shocking.

My MA is in forensic mental health counseling. I also completed the degree requirements for forensic psych. In retrospect, I’m glad I chose a subfield with zero illusions re the worst of what humankind can perpetrate.

I kept having to remind myself that most of those characters grew up in that essentially medieval, quarantined, world, rife with superstition and fanaticism. In light of that, that the <SPOILER> final scene centers on an act of education felt especially pointed.

“Cynical utilitarianism” is beautifully put. The best-funded senior investigators I knew were essentially riffing on durably successful formulas that appealed to funders’ innate conservatism.
