This Thanksgiving, all of you white people — all of you — by some crazy fucking way, have to go back to Europe.

Then, when you *try* to come back, only Indigenous peoples are waiting for you at the shoreline. Like an Ellis Island ran by Indigenous folks.

Why should we let you back in?

Since we’re talking about food, boys — not the girls — would serve the meals. Why? Because Native boys were taught from the outset that the community will eat *or starve* based on their abilities as a hunter. To this day, in a Native house (especially mine), men & boys serve. We keep it tradish.

There are 574 federally-recognized tribes. That doesn’t include state-recognized or unrecognized tribes…

That’s more than 574 episodes of a cuisine you’ve never heard of. From bison to berries, from salmon to skull & eyeball soup? We Natives have a cuisine.

It really does come down to this: Be kind to one another. Everyone is going through something, right now. They may be suffering physically. They may be suffering emotionally. They may be lonely. They may have lost a loved one days ago or even years and they’re going through that pain. Just be kind.

Folks, not every tribe had a flute.

Yet, when you watch a documentary about Natives there’s invariably a flute playing.

Fact: White people would photograph all Natives in a headless regardless if that tribe knew what a headdress was. What they wanted was to sell a picture of an “Indian.”
