At least somebody in the European wing of NATO is listening to me. We have need to see the significant Military players from this side of the North Atlantic – the UK, France and Germany – on manoeuvres both on the Island, and in Greenland’s waters since Trump first threatened a NATO member. Art. 5!

Leveson 2. When do we want it? Now!

Robin, let me join the voices thanking you for the first 16 years of The Infinite Monkey Cage and suggesting that this is a moment of real opportunity to expand the model from 25 minutes on BBC R4 to 2+ hours on a podcast platform such as Goalhanger's "The Rest is…" as per Stewart & Campbell…

ECHR, ECHR, ECHR … Freedom from Torture, the Right to a Fair Trial, etc., etc., etc.… And we’re thinking of exiting the convention to appease Faragism, Trumpism and, by extension, Putinism. The feebleness of our collective memories. What new piece of literature, music or film will remind us of this?

Reversing Brexit, an actual “Hard Political Decision” that really needs to be made as opposed to all those ridiculous pandering passes to the fruit cake and dangerous far right fascists like Farage and Trump so often made by “Wannabes” like LoTO Badenoch and the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood.

“An eyebrow lifting moment” for the GB News anchor hearing that a majority of Reform voters are in favour of looking at a Customs Union with the EU, the Single Market and even Freedom of Movement if these will bring economic growth and more so than Tories who are evenly split. Maybe for all of us.

Mahmood seems to be Kite Flying, despite being becalmed by the actual figures on immigration.

So another excuse then to watch the Pythonesque Patrick Stewart antidote to the braying, xenophobic idiocy that brought us Brexit and once more threatens to force us out of our human rights protection within the ECHR, the post war anti-Fascist convention we drafted. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptfm...
Patrick Stewart sketch: what has the ECHR ever done for us?

Protecting workers' employment rights – many restored after abusive Tory legislation – Good. Abandoning fundamental human rights for all – workers, homemakers, kids and central to a democracy and the key antidote to fascism – Bad. One hand of this government seemingly oblivious to the other. Groan.

Vital words if you believe in the progress of history and the value of a rules based world order protecting countries from aggressors and to enable the smooth passage of cultural and trading relationships. This statement by Ukraine's UN Ambassador is everything Chamberlain's, post Munich, was not.

Very much the moment to remember Jonathan Miller’s rebuke of the egregious Enoch Powell. The arrival of these people is only an issue if people with public charisma state it is so. Welcoming and supporting them is in our moral, democratic and economic interests. Any other response is reprehensible.
