This Halloween let’s over-analyse ghosts.
What goes bump in the night might not be a guiding spectre, but a hallucinating, memory-fractured, rage-filled echo of a broken mind. We applied our craft to the earthbound afterlife. It’s not comforting. It’s not scientific. It’s just bleakly entertaining.

Britain once called suffragettes criminals. Now some protests are still dismissed as nuisance, while others are branded terrorism. The comparison between PA and JSO says a lot about where the UK's democracy is headed.

Right! The baseline was already tiny… and yet he still managed to shrink it by 40% between 2018 and 2025. Possibly his only real achievement.

Trump’s words are getting simpler, blunter, angrier. Our 2018–2025 speech analysis shows shorter sentences, a shrinking vocabulary, and sharper grievance rhetoric. Decline or design, the outcome is the same: harder populism that fuels violence and binds his base

I understand this. Please tell me you do, too.

True, Trump acts like rules don’t apply. But they do to his staff. “Just following orders” won’t cut it if taxpayer-paid employees are making propaganda videos. Hatch Act violations have consequences: disbarments, investigations, even jail. The yes-men have more to lose than Dear Leader’s favor.

Totally, Miller’s fingerprints are all over this. But armchair diagnosis misses the point. “He’s ill” explains everything and proves nothing, essentially a thought-terminating cliché. What matters is the machinery: who scripts, edits, approves, and why taxpayer resources may be involved.

Trump’s 79 and not tech-savvy, but he’s posting pro-edited AI videos? Yeah... He’s not making them. These are storyboarded, scripted, edited and approved. This isn’t proof of a cognitive decline, it’s an administrative one. And if taxpayer staff are involved... That’s a Hatch Act violation.

Moral reframing once built bridges. Trump burned them down. His politics thrives on amplification, not persuasion, but it cracks when mocked. That’s why Obama’s unity, Sanders’ justice, Newsom’s satire, and even Kimmel’s jokes form an updated arsenal.

I think we've seen this before...

Create the crisis, prolong the suffering, blame the opposition, watch the suffering, grab power to 'fix' the problem, then crown yourself the saviour, it is the oldest trick in the authoritarian playbook.

This shutdown is not gridlock, it is hostage politics. Millions are left without paychecks, aid, or health coverage. 50k Americans a year will die while billionaires celebrate tax cuts. Government has become a weapon against its own people.

Research shows that when leaders invent threats, supporters accept harm just to punish “outsiders.” This fight is no longer left vs right, it’s people vs power. Civil rights were never gifted from above. They were demanded from below.

Fair enough, you’re entitled to your opinion. But this sounds like judging psychology by its worst examples instead of its wider contributions: safer cars, better schools, fairer courts, healthier societies, more humane care, and usable tech. Let’s agree to disagree and leave it there.

Institutions may misuse power, but that isn’t psychology. Psychology explains the what and why of behavior so change is possible. The concerns you raise seem less about psychology itself and more about frustration with institutions, which is fair.

True, psychology has been misused in the past. But research into morals and ethics now focus on fairness, bias, and inclusion, helping reduce discrimination, not fuel it. Like any science, its value depends on how we apply it.

True, therapy access in the U.S. is pricey and limited... no argument there. But psychology's reach goes far beyond the couch: its reshaped education, reformed courts through memory research, and cut drunk driving with targeted campaigns. It's not all Freud and metaphors

Over-diagnosis of the ‘healthy unwell’ is a real issue, for sure. But psychology is much more than diagnosis, most of it is research into memory, learning, development, behaviour, and so on. This post is more about helping students with APA and research, not labelling people.

True, NAND gates can add, but that’s hardwired logic. Bees weren’t doing fixed input→output. They learned blue=‘+1’, yellow=‘–1’, then applied that rule to a new number (3) and novel shapes. That’s abstract reasoning: mapping a symbol to an operation and generalizing beyond training.
