CPCA Funding Committee in early January, and it appears all of the documents about the Bus Depot are exempt... wouldn't want the public knowing how they're spending Bus funding...?

Yes the acronym packed documents from the local authority are frustrating, BSIP is bus service improvement plan, the other one is something about Department of “Levelling Up” and communities.

I see moving the Peterborough depot has come up again, yet all £6,598,000 of Capital funding in this years BSIP went fully in to “Supporting the delivery” of new depots, along with £20m of “Borrowing and funding from DLUHC“

And above it, on the ground that has to be dug up, build active travel routes…

...routes they directly finance/contract. Seeing that not just with routes that have been contracted after being dropped by a commercial operator, but also in the new Tiger branded routes, and the new upcoming routes (9/10/X31). They need to do so much more to tell people, and get bus ridership up.

Free car parking, while "in the manifesto" as we keep hearing, doesn't seem the right thing for "now". Of course there's a huge majority of people who are car drivers who will want that over anything else... (and a bridge re-opening)

CPCA have been terrible at promoting bus usage, even on the...

Police and Crime Commissioner even taking part in the discussion about Tiger Pass during the Board meeting, and being supportive of it.

Yes. Maybe it'll sink in over time (I think it's starting, tbh) that the one thing the combined authority actually have an ability to improve (and have 'some control' over), being buses, they should put full focus on that and not the things that aren't actually part of their control.

Response is about having to make the Tiger pass financially sustainable. Obvious answer there is surely:

1) Don't pay for free car parking then this coming year, spend it on buses instead

2) If more people use the buses in general, including Tiger Pass, it'll make them all more sustainable

Watching the Board meeting online now, never seen so many members of the public in the room, and all four questions are about the Tiger pass in what appears (but may not be) a well organised push to ensure the Tiger pass gets continued by student groups. Even a (news/camera) crew there filming.

Seems this "permanent Tiger Pass scheme" is just to last for another financial year - nothing planned for beyond March 2027, as the government might not continue the national bus fare cap
Cambridgeshire's Tiger Pass scheme could be extended until 2027
The young people's bus pass will be discussed by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

...to find that, when they get there, there's "nothing for them"? (sometimes not even a reliable 4G mobile signal)

Having read through some of the comments on the Huntingdonshire Local Plan consultation (comments are public once approved) the view seems quite echoed by a few too.

That said, if a rural town has low transport connectivity, low workplace access, what good people moving in to 'affordable' homes...

What would be interesting in this tool, is if you could "place" a destination, such as health destination, or education destination, or workplace, and see a comparative map of how it improves (or not) the area around it - SimCity/Cities Skylines style. Simulate where there could be demand/benefit.

Health destinations by Walking, vs Education by Walking, in the Alconbury Weald area.

This data really appears to show where facilities have, or haven't, been provided when places have been built/grown, and how it's not consistent across all destination types or modes of travel - planning fails?

Surprisingly poor 'health' (destination) by 'walking' (mode of transport) score for West Cambridge, especially around the university site and parts of Eddington...?
December 11, 2025 at 6:51 PM
'Health' destinations by Walking, vs 'Residential' by Walking.

Shows how some places, especially rural (market towns), drop off very quickly on the health, vs the rural residential properties that are more broadly spread across wider (sparse) areas

'Public transport: All forms of public transport are grouped into one mode for the purposes of the Connectivity Tool Lite. This includes buses (including some demand-responsive services), coaches, trains, ferries, light rail, trams and metro systems'

but Tiger on Demand DRT not included on map?
December 11, 2025 at 6:31 PM
Changing to 'show local authority view' and 'show authority band' is "interesting", especially when picking between modes of travel, as shown in the images same area, on the left image 'driving' on the right image 'public transport'

(bus stop icons overlay was also showing in these examples)

And while I've not looked enough to confirm yet, it appears it uses 'proximity' to a place (eg: bus stop) and not "can you actually safely walk it" (eg: footpath) using National Travel Survey 'willingness to travel', rather than if people actually do travel that distance to access that/those things?
December 11, 2025 at 4:44 PM
Interesting find, thanks for sharing!

I note that with opacity turned down, places with '1' score (worst connectivity) show through the 'green' on map, such as Great Fen, and multiple places across the Fens, which is the colour for '~50' ('average' connectivity). Base map should maybe be mono?

I've been watching a channel for months and just catching up with some recently posted ones - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vehz... is well worth a watch

(ticket machine not scanning passes, and then failing completely - driver not in wrong. Got to wonder how it affects LA measuring pax numbers/funding)
