Mutants of cell shape in Ciliophora provide clues to the variety of forms in protists. 1-Janus doublets vz the Metamonada double cell. 2-Multiplication of kinetids from 2 to 4 to 8, to many in hypermastigotes, opalinids. See Cell Shape review doi.org/10.1016/B978...

We're taught MJ Schleiden and T Schwann first described the (eukaryotic) cell as we understand it, 1838-1839. But H Dutrocher 1824 first provided the wording and context of the cell as the basic unit in plants and animals. See here doi.org/10.1016/B978...

New paper used AI to scan parasites in stool samples wet mounts with neural networks. This will speed processing and the false + or - are coparable to human error. But it detected at higher dilution, and spotted species missed by microscopy. doi.org/10.1128/jcm....
