A digital illustration depicting Phlegethon, god of the river of fire in the Underworld. Phlegethon is a muscular male figure with pitch black skin covered in patches of jagged obsidian, surrounded by molten, glowing cracks as if he's burning from the inside. Phlegethon's face is largely indiscernible except for his eyes, which burn like two embers. He wears only a tattered loincloth and carries a flaming spear in one hand. Phlegethon is stepping down into a lava lake via stairs carved into a stone outcropping. In the foreground, several glowing souls are submerged up to their necks in the lava. They reach for Phlegethon with pleading, pained expressions. In the background, lava pours into the lake via two waterfalls on either side of the image. Towering above them is the spectral outline of an austere, pillared building, with huge ghostly chains hanging from the outermost pillars. Flames lick up from the building's foundations, throwing embers across the dark background. Two other rivers can be seen coursing down distant mountains.
