Technically the killed Google Talk entirely as a product. But yes, the effect was similar for many people. (http://sngpl.ma/t5fm1)

@remy.has.pawtism.lol what issues are you having with the prosody docs? You’re right it won’t work behind cloudflare because it’s not a web service, it needs access to real ports. You may also be interested in https://snikket.org/service/quickstart/ (http://sngpl.ma/t5fm0)

But does it manage to have non-garbage autocorrect? Every ios keyboard seems terrible in this area… (http://sngpl.ma/t5ei0)

It’s more nuanced, sadly: in the very beginning of Matrix (Sep 2014), I did position it as a reaction to XMPP… because that was what it was. This caused extreme irritation with XMPP fans, which in retrospect could & should have been avoided. We consciously stopped making the comparison in ~Dec 2014.

This is a periodic reminder that Facebook never federated with XMPP and thus never turned it off. This is a pervasive myth. (Google did federate and eventually killed the whole product that federated, but Facebook never federated atall with XMPP.) (sngpl.ma/t5e01)

There is a hierarchical version of xmpp: URIs but it is rarely used since that would denote a server to connect to and usually you just want to mention an address (ala mailto: or tel: or sms: URIs) (sngpl.ma/t5e00)

check out eg wiki.xmpp.org/web/SRV_Reco... for how to delegate your name to a server and kingant.net/check_xmpp_d... for a tool that checks you did it right

Working on it! Doing alpha testing now but I hope for something more polished within a year.

You can move you account to another server, I do it all the time! It uses the same technology as ATProto names, where DNS can delegate what server to use for the name (http://sngpl.ma/t5dX0)

We’ve had that for years with xmpp.org/extensions/x... but RELOAD is an attempt to modernize this for LAN/ad-hoc network use cases.

These aren’t really the same kind of thing. XMPP for sure, maybe over websocket as a transport if you’re in a browser. (http://sngpl.ma/t5c80)

Hmm, not sure where that idea came from. It’s still the same one it always was every since circa 2005, and is essentially the same thing that became WebRTC also (http://sngpl.ma/t5bt0)

Why do you need high adoption? So long as your contacts can follow an invite link and install an app that’s all you need for yourself right? (http://sngpl.ma/t5aX0)

As someone who has used XMPP on mobile continuously since 2010 and now maintains one mobile client, I’m wondering what you current find lacking there which we could improve? (http://sngpl.ma/t5aT5)

You may want to check out https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.cheogram.android/ for replies, custom emoji, and other fun stuff. e2ee options for reactions are specced and being worked on, just takes time to get things implemented with a small group of devs 🙂 (http://sngpl.ma/t5aT3)
