there are a few ways we can do this and the choice is yours. (he/him) photographer, trading card game enjoyer, computational scientist, open source advocate
Or the 3+ pip cards are largely bad and unplayable? So they don’t get played, and wouldn’t get played more post-proposed rule change. Though, there are high-pip non-hybrid cards that do get played in high color decks (necropotence is the prime example). So raw pip count likely isn’t that meaningful

I'm not sure I understand how it works "backwards". The cards work as written in commander. You can hydroblast a vexing shusher because it is a red card. but how exactly are the designers are locked out in that way?

outlier does not mean faulty. it's a legal card and measuring its inclusion rate the same way as every other legal cards is sound data science. recognizing it is an outlier is important, and discussing the effects of that outlier is also important.

maybe! i'd be interested in that model though. definitely something to add to the study.

maybe "has been" a core part of hybrid mana design. Looking at TLA, only 2/20 hybrid cards have 3 hybrid pips. that excessive color cost is definitely diminished recently. i guess we will see about future sets.

maybe! how would you weight pip-intensity in this analysis?

wasn't her comment "I think green's notable advantage over the other mono-colored decks largely due to the anomalous leyline of the guildpact?" Calling out an outlier is absolutely the correct thing to do.

How would you suggest weighting cards based on their pip count? Interesting idea to add to the metric. I suspect it won't make a huge dent in the takeaway since most hybrid cards have 1 or 2 colorful pips.

looking at any individual card definitely gets in the weeds. I think Anna Margaret did a great job of seeing the forest for the trees in this video. I suspect any anecdotal anomaly is washed out by just taking into account every single card.
