Just an everyday regular normal guy

If you don’t own any of those games, this month is superb. Especially with fall being around the corner, perfect for some cozy gaming nights.

🙏 hopefully MS will make the custom OS widespread available for other (handheld) devices. It’s a beast nevertheless.

The ppl who are disappointed if GTA VI isn’t the „biggest“ game ever. The ppl who complain about „downgrading“ when a game looks worse at release than it did in its concept trailer. The ppl who expect that every new console generation comes with photorealistic graphics.

That’s not what I was saying. Just don‘t use overly simplified solutions to a complex multifaceted problem.

And I agree with your Switch and PC-Indy arguments, I also don’t need every game to be AAA, but look at the hype a game like GTA VI generates, that doesn’t come from relying on a basic concept. In the end publishers require a mixed calculation in order to be sustainable.

My original argument was towards the „just stop making games expensive“ statement and I argued that this is easier said than done. Both because costs of making (any) game increased over the years (like anything) and because people - to a certain degree - expect games to evolve over time.

No doubt, but that’s on Nintendo, its focus on an outstanding catalog of first party games and the relatively young target audience. I might be mistaken, but I doubt any other company could pull this off. And even then, the costs for Nintendo are rising as well www.zeldadungeon.net/nintendo-exe...
Nintendo Executives Discuss Rising Development Costs and More at Investor Q&A - Zelda Dungeon
At an investor Q&A on November 6th, 2024, Nintendo executives shared their insight on topics relevant to the modern gaming landscape and Nintendo’s current position in the market. One question that had nearly every participant chiming in pertained to the rising cost of game development. They were asked how Nintendo views this issue and what, if any, efforts are being taken to mitigate expenses. Executive Fellow and Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto began by acknowledging that Nintendo’s research and development costs...

That being said, it’s definitely not sustainable to one up another in game costs and ✨bombast✨, but video games have always defined itself theough technical prowess, just think about how blown away ppl where from the 3D graphics of the N64. I think there is the expectation that this trend continues.

Nintendo Fans might be the exception here, but I often read the complaint that game XY looks „like a PS4/PS3 game“. Additionally, back when Crysis came out I was convinced this is as good as games will ever look. So your perception might change over the years.

That to me just shows that people want opulent games. „Looks like a PS4 game“ is often quoted as a complaint

I‘d argue they were successful bc they stood out. And obviously you’re correct, a big cut of the costs is down to marketing because they want to make money. Still though, I saw so many complaints that the Switch 2 is not going to be powerful enough and ppl are worried games not looking good enough.

Then stop asking for extensive and opulent games. If the next Uncharted looked like a PS4 Game everyone would loose their shit. Yet the costs of labor, motion capturing, hardware, etc. all are rising. It’s still relatively cheap to make a simple 2D game, but no one is happy with stagnation.

All I want is the native console-like „out of the box“ feeling that comes with the Steam Deck and the versatility when it comes to Launchers and Games associated with Windows. Not sure if Microsoft is going to do that, but that‘d motivate me to move from my Ally to this device.
