That wouldn’t require keeping social media open, just disclosure of usernames. Invasive for sure, but less so than “we demand you keep your Facebook page public so we can scan it for anti-Americanism.”

Some clarity for the above; as the Embassy’s post says, this policy is currently only for dependents of H-1Bs, student visas, and exchange/researcher visas.
It’s not currently being applied to tourist visas or other visas, to my knowledge, yet.
