I live in a city where the worst we get is a mild frost. Many times in winter I have to carry an extra jersey for when I get to my destination, because it’s too warm to cycle with it on.

But obviously we can’t invest in cycle infrastructure because no one would ever cycle in winter.

True in formal contexts it wouldn’t be out of place, but seeing it in something like a social media comment would be uncommon. A lot of the people I have seen trying to find LLM output is in that sort of context.

Easy, yes. Well known and used? Not so much. The relative rareness of their usage by modern humans makes them useful as an indicator.

Also with this “fact” spreading, humans are less likely to use m dashes — making them an even stronger indicator.

Indicator not being proof ofc.

What dictionary did you use? Scar and Yale weren’t valid, but Eros and ares were.

I know this wasn’t your point, but I actually love the reframing from “toxic masculinity” to “masculine toxicity”. It’s such a subtle thing, but to me it reads more clearly as “there’s nothing wrong with masculinity, there is something wrong with *that* (and it just happens to be masculine)”.

Degrowth is an economic movement. The thing that they desire to not grow is GDP.

Saying that degrowth is an inappropriate name because it sounds bad when applied to housing policy is as nonsensical as saying that NIMBY advocates never host BBQs because their name sounds bad when applied to BBQs.

If NIMBYs want to have BBQs in their backyard, then they need to pick a different name.

Or you need to realise that names a chosen relative to something specific, and applying the name of an economic movement to housing policy leads to weird interpretations.

I think it’s a reaction to techbros saying that it will replace everything. Obviously if the bad people are saying something, it must be the opposite!

But the truth, as it so often is, is somewhere between the extremes

In this scenario, I assume Vance would be somewhat open about him just being Trump in disguise. And I’ve seen too many people say “there is no way Trump could win” to be sure this couldn’t happen.
