i only get definitive thoughts if it is something that annoys them and they're saying 'don't do it'. otherwise it's like 'i'm scared of becoming part of a camp of people i can critique as an outsider to technical design so i just won't be a part of it when a person on the coding side needs it'

there's this really frustrating disconnect i've noticed where i'll ask people for thoughts on design decisions i'm doing for my game and i keep getting 'well it depends' or 'make it an option' and it feels like it's because the people offering them are like 'well i don't want to COMMIT to anything'

my family has a thing lined up where we do a ton of different thanksgiving parties in a row and i keep saying i'll be happy to join in every year and also forgetting every year that thanksgiving parties are like that

for me what happens is they're all too eloquent. i have to keep rewriting scenes because a character whose primary motivation is 'i don't wanna be here i just wanna go back home and sleep' will say shit like 'sad state of affairs'. they shouldn't do that they should be saying 'man this shit sucks'

ah, makes sense - i like having notifs on to get back to people DMing me quicker but it sounds annoying as hell for discord to go 'are you sure you don't want us to turn these noises back on???'
