I want folks 25 and under to stop calling me “unc”.

Please, stop.

I think it’s so weird and unintelligent for someone you’re interested in on social media to comment under their picture and tell them to “DM you”. Like, why you couldn’t just DM them yourself? Why are you telling them to DM you like you’re the catch when you obviously are trying to catch them?

I say this to say, Solange is one of the BEST songwriters. People don’t talk about the conception of her writing and her approach to lyrical expression, especially from a timeline of discographies layered and ready to be studied and examined. She’s always done it for me for a long time.

This is another record I find fascinating about Solange’s songwriting. The uniqueness of her to create a chopped-in-screw style record, making the song sound seductive, something she’s never done before but keep it up float her storytelling method by simply talking about a car show. BRILLIANT!

This song is one of my favorite records Solange has ever written and is my favorite record on ASATT. Reminds me of how I felt when she wrote an unreleased record entitled Under Construction but with a more direct approach to the messaging she’s conveying. Brilliant lyrics, overwhelming creativity!

What I love most about this song other than being a song that still resonates with me the older I get, is how this was a song she wrote during Hadley St Dreams era. Going back to how she always appreciated her younger songwriting days, it’s storytelling, yet sends a sensitive-universal message. 🥹

Then, there’s Cash In, the pre-cursor to Cranes In The Sky. It was the first record by Solange I ever got into emotional despair. Powerful and vulnerable lyrics while creating a storytelling experience that’s attached to the black cultural movement during its time. Still one of my favs by her.

I feel like this song doesn’t get talked about enough. For one, this is the first record Solange fully produced by herself. Secondly, Solange is more open to vulnerability by alerting us she’s a weed smoker. Third, she still uses her poetic aesthetic on her songwriting skills through this record.

Similar to the songwriting Solange used during her Solo Star days, I felt this song was a way to reintroduce Solange into that playful aesthetic we once heard but in pop alternative concept. Dev Hynes must’ve studied her and pushed her to re-direct that same energy back into this era of her music.

Speaking of being a shit-talker, when Beyoncé released this record, I knew instantly Solange had something to do with this record before looking at credits. Just like in her storytelling with Valentines’ Day, this song alert an alarm in those who paid close attention to Solange’s style of writing.
sirvonchilds.bsky.social
One of the songs that really connected to me through Solange was this one. Solange, first off, is a shit-talker. Secondly, her studies of The Marvettes and The Supreme became useful to play a role into the storyline of this record. I just knew she was destined as a phenomenal songwriter.
sirvonchilds.bsky.social
Her approach to her younger years in songwriting lead her to become such a soulful lyricist by the time she got into her early 20s, dissecting her influences from Motown period to allow her creativity blend with old school aesthetics but still wrote in poetic terms. Solange is a brilliant writer.
sirvonchilds.bsky.social
Just like with “Obsession” by Kelly Rowland, you hear this same style of songwriting in “This Could Be Love”, not only because Troy Johnson was the producer but it’s almost as if Solange is storytelling her teenage love experience during both ‘Simply Deep’ and ‘Solo Star’ projects.
sirvonchilds.bsky.social
Solange was such a brilliant songwriter in her early years. I see why she always say she appreciates her younger days of songwriting. The poetic, teenager Solange was and Kelly being perfect to allow young Solange to fulfill this role during a time when both artists were entering into debuts.

Only reason why I am saying this is simply because ppl don’t know the difference in what I do when my accreditation is at a higher profession level.

I blame the younger generation for this confusion.
