The Psalter is among the most frequently copied works in Ethiopian Orthodox tradition. Each codex contains a canonized compilation of texts: the Psalms of David (Mazmura Dāwit), biblical songs, the Song of Songs, Wǝddāse Māryām, and others.

The legend of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon plays an important role in Ethiopia's cultural history. According to tradition, the Queen of Sheba, known as Makeda (or here Azeb), was from Ethiopia.
