"stop the steal; mass deportations; drain the swamp; drill, baby, drill." the right doesn't craft magical slogans that are impervious to misinterpretation or offense--but they do lean into their messaging. they don't kill a rallying cry (with roots in a larger movement) the sec it gains traction.

i think folks are clinging to ignorance as a theory because it’s more comfortable than contending with the implications of a large % of ppl feeling perfectly ok (happy!) with a subset of folks being otherized, harassed & tortured.

He was explicit/clear. We only extend them the benefit of the doubt—somehow fooled, despite his campaign promises, PR 2025 & his 1st term—because of who these voters are. Note the condemnation/lack of grace for others who actually had *very good* reasons for not feeling inspired/enthused to vote.

I worry that a per-capita analysis might obscure the fact that more detentions are tied to the conditions that lead to death—it’s not just a function of more people being detained & therefore more ppl (but the same percentage of ppl) are dying; overcrowding leads to unique harms.

Even folks who voted are apparently responsible for Trump! No missteps by the party that failed to capture/reflect their constituents—whose votes they must earn & which they are not entitled to.

I’m sorry—casting my ballot wasn’t voting? Is there an alternative version of voting I’m unaware of? Will ignore the nastiness of this comment to say that we all should have a moral compass not narrowly defined by electoral politics.

I voted but remain horrified by anyone who dismisses concerns about genocide as a “purity test.” I’m angry that this election forced us to choose between 2 versions of a genocide—& that the party of so-called decency has encouraged us to pare down our moral compass so we sneer at those who care.
