Did etsy ever make like real amounts of money? I can see a lot of people there buying OIL PAINTINGS for like a couple hundred bucks, which in honesty would barely even cover materials. Twitter might be a shithole with terrible conversion but at least the commissions I get there pay a good rate.

I might check them out, but having had a glance at them the prices are mostly astonishingly low, and I'm pretty doubtful that they're good for anything but small amounts of side income to people with other jobs. These sites are all buyer's markets, so prices are rock bottom.

I wouldn't immediately discount them, but artists have limited time and energy. There's probably like 50+ platforms where I could technically be posting my work, but each of them have different rules, require me to fill out forms in a different way, require my attention to learn their algorithms.

I might be pessimistic but I don't think they'll ever be as essential to us as 'everything apps'. People come on Twitter etc to scroll, every spare waking moment. In order for them to see a SKEB, they need to consciously think 'I am searching for art to commission, I should leave Twitter'
