It's been a landmark day for the NHS. But what does it all mean?

NEW: Ending care worker recruitment from abroad is hugely risky for a #socialcare sector facing a vacancies void, and reforms to make care jobs more attractive for UK workers won’t kick in for years.

Diverging paths: How other countries have designed and implemented assisted dying
As the assisted dying Bill returns to the House of Commons next week, this in-depth analysis offers evidence from a wide range of contexts to further inform the debate. What can the UK learn from…

4/ These differences aren't just procedural -- they affect how individuals access and experience services, what roles and responsibilities staff hold, and the health and social care system at large.

3/ This includes many things like:

◾ The extent to which assisted dying is publicly funded and integrated into broader health and care services
◾ Which staff can be involved, and the training they require
◾ The processes people must go through to give consent
◾ How compliance is monitored

etc.

2/ A wealth of international evidence has already been drawn on to inform the debate in the UK, but it has tended to focus on a narrow set of countries or issues regarding eligibility.

Part of why we did this work is to highlight the broader operational and practical differences that also matter.

Multiple sources tell me AHRQ is about to be destroyed. A terrible loss for our country.

Missed this story last night portending something bad for AHRQ

AHRQ fills a hugely important void in the medical and health care research space: it funds work that doesn't map cleanly to a disease, body part, or special population (e.g., older Americans)

Great question and something we’ve been looking at closely at @nuffieldtrust.bsky.social with more research coming out this year — and not only Denmark, but other systems that have had similar efforts to reorient care towards the community

RFK Jr.'s HHS Secretary confirmation means he'll oversee Medicare, Medicaid/CHIP, and Marketplace health coverage as well as crucial public health agencies like the CDC, NIH, & FDA. He was confirmed despite making it clear in his hearings that he doesn't understand the programs he'll be overseeing.

Our new analysis out today looks at the deteriorating finances of NHS trusts. NHS trusts consume over 75% of the English NHS budget, so if you want to know how the NHS is coping with its current funding, your starting point should be the doubling of the trust overspend to £1.2bn by March 2024 >>

Chuffed to be speaking today at Ireland’s National Health Summit on how to shift services from hospital to the community.

Like the UK, Ireland has embarked on a 10-year plan to reorient its health and care system towards prevention and the community — so lots to learn as well 👀 #HealthSummit25
