One of our amazing local (Sydney, Australia) charities cares for pets when their owners are in hospital. They posted this the other day 🥰. Pets are family.
Photo of fluffy cat and the following text “For 40 days Coco was home alone after her owner was admitted to hospital, with only the building manager stopping by to feed her. When we learned what was happening, one of our amazing volunteers stepped in to ensure she was fed and safe. Soon after, Coco came into care with an experienced foster carer, where she finally felt secure again. Last Friday the hospital social worker contacted us, Coco’s owner was in their final hours, and their only wish was to say goodbye to Coco. Her foster carer didn’t hesitate, she rushed to the hospital , creating a moment none of us will forget. In the Words of the Social Worker : “I wanted to share a moment that touched all of our hearts—mine, the nursing team, ward staff, and external Allied Health colleagues. This afternoon, I met the foster carer in the drop-off zone with Coco. I brought Coco upstairs to see her mum, who had been unresponsive all day. Coco gently lay on her chest, and shortly after, the Nursing Unit Manager shared that she began to respond to Coco’s presence. Not long after, she passed away - with her little pride and joy resting on her chest. It was a profoundly moving moment, one that brought tears to many of us. These are the stories we hear about but rarely witness. I truly believe she left this world at peace, surrounded by love, with her sweet girl by her side. This would not have been possible without your organisation’s compassion, effort, and care. Because of you, she had the chance to say goodbye in the most beautiful way. Thank you for choosing such wonderful foster carers and for facilitating today’s call. I will carry this story with me for the rest of my career and life, and I will always speak of your incredible work with gratitude. Wishing you a lovely afternoon, and I look forward to working with you again in the future.” Stories like this remind us exactly why we do what we do.
