State Street, Chicago (1975)
Photo: Chicago History Museum
1975 photo of State Street, Chicago, at night, main subjects being the State Lake and Chicago theatres, both cinemas at the time, with one showing The Godafather Part II with Al Pacino and the other showing The Towering Inferno. Shadowy figures walk under the marquee lights, a somewhat "noir" image.

Piccadilly Circus (1915)

Image: Muirhead Bone / Boston Public Library
Print of an etching of a city scene at night.
From source: A view of Piccadilly Circus as seen by night from the Quadrant, with the County Fire office on the left, the Pavilion near the middle, and the Criterion to the right, beyond Mr. Alfred Gilbert's fountain. The Circus is full of traffic, among the most conspicuous objects being a motor car stationed near the kerb on the left, and a mounted soldier advancing towards Regent Street on the right. The sky is very dark, but is crossed by the rays of searchlights while a strong light is thrown downwards from the electric street lamps, which have their tops obscured in accordance with the special war regulations which prevailed during the winter of 1914-15. The composition is complete and the work is approximately finished, but the general effect is much lighter than in the published states, and the rays from the searchlights cross the whole width of the sky instead of only partially penetrating its gloom.

They were looking for staff from 1964 to 1972

Maybe it was '72 when they were forced to stop advertising jobs with a 72 hour work week!

Really frustrated I can't find a proper colour pic of the sign, but you can sort of see the purplish/blue hue on the back of this record by the artist Wazmo Nariz

This place closed down in the early 1980s but stood defiantly with its distinctive blue sign and space age name until some time after 2006, when it was finally torn down.

Compared to Dylan and Springsteen, country-music legend Johnny Cash can seem deeply uncool. It took time for me to appreciate his profound, plainspoken strength, writes Jon Fasman.

The one in Dublin is a copy cast in 1968 from the original from 1916 (seen here, located in Washington, DC), created by Irish sculptor Jerome Connor.

Pretty sure the one in SF is also a copy of this one.
