It was around 500 years ago when Europeans kidnapped Incan emperor Atahualpa after butchering his bodyguards.

Seemingly not content with murdering Algerians in their own land, French police (led by Vichy collaborator Papon) drowned or beat to death 200-300 pro-Algerian protestors in Paris, 1961. This crime was cencored in France until 1998.

1.5 million Algerians were murdered during war of indepencence, which lasted 7.5 years.

France conducted 17 nuclear weapon tests in Algeria, the first 4 atmospheric. The colonialists, as the tend to do, falsely proclaimed "the total absence of all signs of life" in the test areas.

On this day in 1847, Algeria was proclaimed a colony by France.

While all of colonialism is a horrific crime, here's some of what France did *after* 1945.

2-3 million Algerians were forced into 1,150 "regroupment" camps without sanitation, systemic violence, forced labour, many deaths.

On this day in 1598 the South American Mapuche won a decisive victory against the European invaders in the Battle of Curalaba, afterwards resisting them for almost 350 years.
They were then brutally conquered by the nation states of Chile and Argentina, and Europeans stole their land once more.

This is a nice bubble-shaped animation. Note the lack of a "value out" stream.
