The way my brain works, just removing a temptation isn't enough, I need to replace it somehow. I can't just sit indoors and tell myself not to go buy things, I have to fill that temptation with something else.
Food: This is a big temptation for me. I want snacks. I like novelty in getting new food. So: Instead of groceries, use a food bank or what I already have. I don't expect myself to avoid eating out entirely, so I've found local-only options. No chains! Same idea with shopping. If I have an alternative, it's not just self-denial, and that's easier for me. I've also got a list of local activities + info on my local bus system. I've noted libraries, museums, parks, and local markets.

"Can I hold out that long? How do I even do this?" Well... I think planning helps? What do I need and want? What alternatives exist?
