I think along these lines you could argue something like redlining was a black issue because the larger homelessness problem had different solutions than redlining and many black people could not buy homes or could not buy certain homes *because they were black.* With trans I’m unconvinced.

Here’s how you could convince me homelessness is a trans issue.

1) Data showing that a very substantial number of trans people are homeless *because they are trans*

2) Solutions to trans homelessness that are specific to trans people and do not generalize to the greater homelessness issue.

Well then it sounds like this homelessness stuff doesn’t really get at the core of what you mean when you say “trans rights”

I’d also add that the solution to the housing stuff seems to be totally unrelated to the solutions to trans stuff. Maybe like changing attitudes toward trans people would help with homelessness a little tiny bit but mostly the solutions to homelessness are totally orthogonal to trans issues

If this is the most important thing for trans activism as you say (even more important than meds!) then it seems he’s in favor of the most important pro-trans policies. For reasons like this it’s worth keeping different concepts distinct

There’s a lot of overlap between all kinds of groups. That doesn’t make those groups synonymous. If I had to guess Jesse is probably against kicking people out of your house for being trans and pro-housing for the homeless.

Right but trans activism isn’t about what medications are being used but specifically about allowing their use with trans people. Trans activism isn’t trying to make sure people have access to birth control. That’s a different movement with much overlap.

Access to trans-related medication is a trans thing. The trans rights movement isn’t about making sure heart surgery is available. It’s true that there’s a lot of crossover between health related activism broadly and trans activism but they’re not one and the same.

I totally agree but some of those causes have commonalities related to the problems that group them naturally together. Many of them affect only trans people or mainly trans people for example so people call them trans rights. Doesn’t really seem to me like housing fits that bill.

Would you consider yourself a big men’s rights activist? Because if your support for the right to housing? Or would you consider that support orthogonal to your support of men as a group?

The most optimal position is everybody plays by the rules and norms but the least optimal position is the good guys play by the rules and norms and the bad guys use it against them to wreak havoc forever completely unpunished.
