As someone who used to live in NY and was ruled by the decisions of NYC. I like the Electoral College and understand it's inception. It is not perfect but it normalizes the electorate a bit.

Gerrymandering and apathetic voters is the major issue

The difference in the perceived minority ruling over the majority is in consistency with voting. Rural usually out votes urban. Saw it in NY when some particularly bad decisions for "Upstate" were voted out because of the turnout.

We have equal Senators. However, we only have one Representative for entire States. This keeps some balance tilted to populated areas.

Presidential election has 3 members for rural states and populated states with more electorate college members.

While it is not perfect, we small rural areas do not want to be ruled by urban masses. Some of things are very different and not understood.

One example is saying folks should use EV - Not feasible in cold rural areas.
