aseprite scales sprites by using nearest neighbor interpolation, so when scaling down a sprite it'll consistently look for the same pixel depending on how much you're scaling it down. so i basically just messed around with it and tried to find which pixel it prioritizes, and then went from there

i never said it didn’t need to be here. i was just annoyed by the wording of it “fixing” the game. that discounts the work of the developer a LOT. there were plenty of reasons for why the new physics were implemented, and there’s proof in the code that it was attempted, but didn’t work out

you’re already punished for going fast by being bombarded by enemies and falling into pits which can kill you if you aren’t careful. i don’t think its a bad idea at all to give the player a bit of a better way to put the brakes on so you don’t have to massively overcorrect like in the original game

it really isn’t disrespectful to say a game from the 80s is a bit outdated by today’s standards for a platformer. calling it archaic doesn’t at all change how revolutionary the game was for the time, but seriously- it was the first of its kind, they weren’t bound to perfect it the first time.

I think its cool to make things like this to try and bring it closer to the original game, don't get me wrong- but for a lot of modern and classic players alike, the classic gameplay style simply does not work, both in the context of the game and the players. This isn't a "fix", its a "tweak".

And secondly, SMB1/LL's physics are very archaic. Even if just for accuracy to the original game, one of the biggest complaints with the original titles has to do with the near lack of air control and slippery controls. This isn't necessarily meant to be entirely faithful- its a complete remaster.

that feels super negative and destructive towards the team that worked behind the project. the fact is, the physics AREN'T accurate for a couple of reasons:
For one, and this is the most important reason, SMBS's campaign literally wouldn't be playable, since the game uses entirely different physics

For reference, we had a little over a month to work on all of Week 3 and BeRzErKeR.

For Week 4, after we finished the patch for v3, we had 12 DAYS to do all of Week 4 and the original, and all we had done in advance were a couple of the Week 4 remixes.
