Donatello is an older #wildmustang, though you can’t tell by the way he runs! He went thru five adopters, countless trainers, starvation, seizure by law enforcement, and a couple rescues before finding lifelong #sanctuary at #Skydog. He’s part of a growing #herd of wild boys who love their freedom.

Today we are in #Sheridan #Wyoming at the #WYOfilmfest for the screening #BlueZeus. We are not far from where this #reddesert #stallion lived wild & free most of his life. An emotional weekend, but very cathartic that is shared with incredible #wildhorse advocates, who are part of the #documentary.

Herd checks across our 9000 acres in Oregon involve a lot of hiking on steep, rocky ground. It took Janelle a few days to track down Phoenix's band. You can see how far she had to go to get a good look at them before they ran away.

Wild Boy’s spirit, pride, confidence and emotional intelligence are on display beneath a stormy Oregon sky. It’s impossible to fathom how he landed in a kill pen, fighting for survival, losing half his ear in the process. He’s free today, being himself, living the life he wanted and yearned for.

Kill pens are auctions frequented by kill buyers, who have quotas to fill for shipping horses to slaughter plants in Mexico and Canada - it’s illegal in the US. Horse traders can buy wild horses from the BLM for $25 each, then make a profit selling them for their meat price at kill pens.

Bureau of Land Management. Formally established in 1946, it is one of the most corrupt - if not THE most corrupt - federal land management agencies. Instead of following its mandate to protect wild equines on public lands designated for them by law, they are obliterating them.

They keep spending millions of taxpayer dollars on helicopter roundups only to cram the animals into an unsustainably expensive and miserable holding system just so billionaire livestock ranchers with access to public lands can graze their cattle and sheep on land designated by law for wild horses.

They are safe for the rest of their lives, but this is just the beginning. It looks like the BLM is going to use Sale Authority to get rid of as many wild horses and burros as possible.
