Youtuber, Auslan Teacher, pottering around learning about learning and language learning in Auslan. Am big fan of making my homeroom, my art gallery too. There are a tonne of talented signers linked in playlists.
I used Helperbird at my old school. For text reading, anyone else got a favourite they would like to suggest? Is free unless one needs pro features

If you have yet to feel the joy of stock video on @microsoft.com then have a look at some of these and then have a go yourself. #language teachers, it is well worth a go

If you don't know, you should know, that playlists be a game changer over on Youtube. Once I had introduced my students to playlists we were in a different race. Now they ask, did you put it in the "blah" or "x" playlist, as people use different ways of thinking to get to things. #languages #Auslan

Will write about my love of velcro on Linkedin but here are some of the products I use. Two different dart boards, one from IKEA and one online. They have different fans, who insist the one they use is better. The velcro dots, arrows and hearts, make our old carpet look great and good for games

Oh the joy of not being exhausted on a Monday. I really like my year 7s AND it has a long time to get them into good habits, signing, not voicing
Over on Linkedin games I smashed it beating 75 percent of players

Archiving on Youtube. Thumbnails mega important, so kids are not relying on English but visual acuity. Time saver and after all we are here learning Auslan, not painfully plodding through the written word. Been a game changer.

Rubik cubes have been a hit this year and only letting kids use real items for prepositions game them a chance to play and sign, always a win

Ok having a smug moment, getting this in one and beating 99 percent of the rest of players. You gotta take your wins when you get them
November 23, 2025 at 8:43 AM
Wrote about this over on Linkedin, but this has been the best in terms of preparing kids for prepositions in Auslan, AND the knowledge staying in their heads.

Using things in the room to show far away and to compare two objects. The colourful poster and the darts board were popular and they do look good

Middle years building stairs out of jenga blocks and adding animals. Prepositions continue with all sorts of creative solutions

Though i could only dream of his numbers

I never knew I'd have something in common with Stephen Barrett. Only ten percent of my viewers are usually subscribers. But these numbers show there is a real need to middley years Auslan

We are doing our bit for 67 (word of year by dictionary.com) and it is going signed into school end of year magazine. It has made teaching 6 and 7 so much easier, so I am grateful

All prepositions all week. Cut rubik cubs in bags, clocks on time and chairs on the floor. Students exploring prior knowledge and where and when things are.
#language #learning meta ala Auslan

Woodend is a delightful town and as a teacher I couldn't resist the urge to add it to my youtube under what else but prepositions (do I dream ideas for this, why yes I do)

Way back when moviemaker was a thing (why @microsoft.com did you take it away) and I had just started my youtube journey. Cut to today and it's 2999 views later, message, succinct and useful o'clock #Auslan #language #o'clock

So to the point with hectic year 9s, who are often in a rush to finish but don't know what direction they are going in

@carlhendrick.substack.com has just posted about retrieval practice over on Linkedin . Creating explicit learning of spelling for my puzzle series but adding in the novelty of ages that are only squares 25, 36 and 49 is very much about retrieval practice, I have yet to do the signing, soonish

And if you have an eye for design, look at the shading of the whiteboard magnets, it is subtle but such an effect. Much more pleasing to the eye
