The Star Trek roll was a desc roll when it aired; the name is a retcon: memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Pitcair...

This is the first we're hearing that at some point last month there weren't any Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk, right? It sounds like they've regained the positions we never knew they lost. So...yay?

Yes--sixth on the list of gripes in the survey is "Rude or disruptive passengers," with 77% saying it's a problem--the same percent as saying hidden fees are. That's the phenomenon Duffy is, clumsily, trying to address. People pretending that isn't a concern risk looking as out of touch as he does.

I imagine that having an unusually short fireman could be very helpful--he could more easily get places the big guys couldn't.

Flag Day is NOT a federal holiday. The list of federal holidays is specified by law: www.opm.gov/frequently-a...

Flag Day may be noted in a presidential proclamation, but there are always lots of presidential proclamations about lots of things. That's far different from a federal holiday.

I suspect some of this is accurate, and some of this is the guy covering for himself somehow.

But it's not a trade-off like that; this was just being needlessly provocative.

They could have announced the increase in support for Ukraine on one day, and then submitted a budget with the funds for the other countries reduced, and not explicitly connected the two things.

I don't love Sweden's framing on this. Liberia in particular has been somewhat supportive of Ukraine. Rhetorically linking cuts in aid to these countries to a boost in aid for Ukraine was unnecessary and will tend to dampen support for Ukraine in the Global South.

Definitely a racist reference, since the US and Canada are not in Europe....but that's not what they mean be "non-European."
December 5, 2025 at 11:35 AM
"The strategy also warns that 'within a few decades at the latest, certain NATO members will become majority non-European.'

News flash: two of the founding members were non-European: the US and Canada.

I don't really understand why this is paired with a photo of what looks like life guards.

Note that leaving them there for 41 minutes without attempting to rescue them is itself a violation of the Geneva conventions. When reasonably feasible, you're supposed to try to rescue shipwrecked enemies.

The painting looks more lifelike than the King, who looks like a statue! 😂

The wording sort of implies that only three countries voted against, but actually (and despicably) twelve did:
bsky.app/profile/noel...
The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution calling on Russia to return all Ukrainian children unlawfully taken during the war. The vote was 91 in favor, 12 against, and 57 abstentions. Countries voting against include Russia, Belarus, Iran, Cuba. Among abstainers were China, India and Brazil.

Amongst all the cringe, there's a foreshadowing of the much later concept of "stereotype threat": that if you are conscious of a negative stereotype about you, then part of your attention is always going toward disproving the stereotype, and that leaves you less attention for other things.

That's not even right: "has welcomed home." I think it's a cumulative number since the start of the full-scale war.

It's telling that there are multiple cases of the agents reminding each other to have their body cams on.

That means they think this behavior is broadly acceptable, and that they wouldn't get in any trouble for it.

That's far, far worse than if they were trying to cover it up.

Or even the fear of flying episode, which while it's hilarious, doesn't just make Felix the butt of the joke.

OK--I'll give you the Odd Couple on that side of the ledger.

I think Putin is being played by Zelensky. And I mean that in a good way! Zelensky is outmaneuvering him in these negotiations.

Slava Ukraini!

Sometimes they get more shallow and simple, though; I think Fame was like that, even though I liked the series. I'm not sure the Odd Couple got more shaded either, but maybe.

I had an interesting dream the other day in that one part of it involved something like a climbing wall...I could clearly feel as my hands and feet supported my weight at various stages of the climb. I don't usually think of dreams as so viscerally including the sense of physical contact like that.

That's the first thing I noticed, too!
