Here in my small town of 1400 people on the Delaware in NJ about an hour from NY and PA., if you can find a 2 bedroom for $1400 grab it because that is a miracle. One bedrooms start at $1800. 2 bedrooms start over $2400 Crazy! Not right but that is what landlords are getting.

But also Blue there are plenty of older people who are only making minimum wage.

Not criticizing young people. My point is you cannot live like you did back then. Wages never kept up with the cost of living. That is why I said there were great things back when I was young and there were awful things. Same as now and the top 1% need to pay their fair share.

I am an artist and my husband is a furniture maker. There are months when we made good money and months when we did not. No hourly wage but actual minimum wage in NJ right now is about $16. We are 70 now and lived through good times and low times financially but did not rely on a “job” for a salary.

Of course it is. But my job back then at J&J gave me health insurance. Also back in the day insurance was not privatized like it was now. I had to go in the hospital for a week in 1974 and I paid nothing. Been there with healthcare costing $1800 a month for my husband and I when we were in our 50’s.

Geez Will I was 19. Sharing an apartment with a good friend was fun! I have friends with grandchildren who live in NYC and they all share a space. Just so expensive now. Having an apartment, not living at home or in a college dorm was a big deal back in my day.

Oh and this is almost the exact car that I had. I have old slides of mine somewhere but this was about it. My seats had racing stripes on them. There were things that were a hell of a lot better and things that were a hell of a lot worse back in those days.

A loan and because I was a young woman my dad had to co-sign and the car was $2500. My apartment was $200, my share $100, heat and electric included. No IPhones, computers and other must have expensive tech. Once the gas went crazy high from .35 to over .52 sold the Mach and bought a VW bug.

My parents first house in 1961 was a 3 bedroom, one bath for $9000. My mom worked at minimum wage and my dad did a bit better as a machinist. Oh they had two cars and 2 children at that point.

I am a lot older than you all but in 1974 at 19 I had a 1973 Mach1. A huge two bedroom apartment shared with a friend. We went out about 5 nights a week to clubs for live music. I had my first and last corporate job in a J&J mailroom and made a bit above minimum wage. You could not do that today.

Oh come on. Are you that gullible to think Schumer did not orchestrate the whole thing? Interestingly none of these Senators are up for reelection next year. Coincidence? Hardly.
