I would chalk this up to lesson learned. It's right in the contract when you book, late or no show policy.

What is the embassy going to do? They could've whatsapp'd/called/emailed the company when they knew they were going to be delayed.

Stayed at Pantheon Hotel next door, was able to go in before getting my coffee on the corner every morning and enjoy before anyone woke up. Beautiful!

This happened in February. The entire West Coast lost communication with planes flying over Pacific to Hawaii.
Very little was said about this. I work with one of the airlines that had 3 planes come back to YVR.
